A Clinical Study and Value of Emergency Helicopter Transport


Abstract
Recently increasing the social interest in the emergency medicine, accidents are now the primary cause of death in population under 40 years of age. We can tell that transport time is very important factor in hopes of reducing mortality and
morbidity.
The author reviewed 112 emergency patients transported by an emergency helicopter service at won-ju Army hospital from Mar, 1989. To Feb, 1991.
@ES The results were as follows:
1) the most prevalent season was summer(41 cases)
2) of 112 cases, medical patients were 22 cases and surgical patients were 90 cases.
3) The most frequent disease were head injuries(19 cases), hemoperitoneum(13 cases), E-H fever(11 cases) in order of frequency.
4) At time of symptoms develop, arrival time to our hospital within 24 hours were 6 cases in medical patients and 80 cases in surgical patients.
5) About our hospital stay within 2 hours, 4 cases were in medical cases and 53 cases in surgical cases.
6) The peal age group was 20~25 age with relation to army.
7) The most frequent cause of injuries in surgical cases was traffic accidents(32 cases).
8) major organ system injuries were abdomen & back(26 cases), head(25 cases).
9) The surgical cases was analyzed by trauma core system, as result, the minor & moderate group(score¡Â9) was 54.5%, severe group(score 10~16) 36.8%, critical group(score¡Ã17) 8.8% in order of frequency.
10) The mortality rate was 8.0%.
